Water tank problems with consistent units
Convert length units first, compute volume, then convert to litres if needed.
Key formulas

Order
Do not mix cm and m in the same product. Convert the dimensions, then multiply.
Example
Tank 2 m by 1.2 m by 0.8 m → V=1.92 m³ = 1920 L.
Partial fill
If water is 0.5 m deep, replace height 0.8 with 0.5 before multiplying.
Worked example
Worked example
Problem. A tank measures 2 m by 1.2 m by 0.8 m. Find its capacity in litres.
Solution. V = 2 × 1.2 × 0.8 = 1.92 m³ = 1.92 × 1000 = 1920 L.
Rate
Volume ÷ flow rate = time — keep litres and litres per minute aligned.
Review quiz

Practice questions
- 50 cm × 40 cm × 30 cm tank. Volume in litres.
- A 2 m³ tank fills at 25 L/min. How many minutes to fill?
Study notes
Is capacity the same as volume?
Capacity usually means the maximum volume the tank can hold.
